Washing of red blood cells in blood is an experimental process of commonly used components of blood transfusion products. That is to say, healthy blood removes all plasma and 90% white blood cells and platelets. Clinically, it is used to reduce rejection in anemia patients with leukocyte antibodies caused by multiple blood transfusions and in patients after organ transplantation.

After the whole blood is separated by centrifuge, the bleeding plasma is divided and the white blood cells are removed firstly, then the sterile saline is added into the red blood cells to mix, and then the residual white blood cells are removed by centrifugation. After repeated washing, more than 98% of the plasma, more than 90% of the white blood cells and platelets are removed, and the production of the white blood cells and platelets in the preservation process is also removed. The metabolites, such as potassium, ammonia and lactic acid, retain more than 70% of red blood cells, and then suspend them with normal saline.
